Turning Cow Manure into Jet Fuel: The U.S. Produces the World’s First 100% SAF from Agricultural Waste

Circularity Fuels, a California-based startup in the United States, has successfully produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from biogas derived from cow manure for the first time in the world. The company has developed an end-to-end process that transforms agricultural waste into aviation fuel that meets international safety standards.

The technology helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by capturing methane from manure before it escapes into the atmosphere, giving the fuel the potential to become a “carbon-negative” energy source. At the same time, its production costs are approaching those of conventional fossil-based jet fuel, making it a promising commercial solution for the future.

Circularity Fuels plans to build its first commercial-scale facility in 2027 and aims to expand the technology across agricultural regions in the United States and internationally, turning farm waste into clean energy for the next generation of aviation.
