Change the behavior of celebrating Loy Krathong this year to preserve the environment for the long term.
“Trump” returns as full president, taking the US out of the Paris Agreement, going against the global trend of reducing global warming, which is a serious threat that many countries are currently addressing.
After Donald Trump took the oath of office as the 47th president, he signed off on 78 executive orders that were initiatives during President Joe Biden’s term.
One of the withdrawals that has caused much concern around the world is the withdrawal from the “Paris Agreement on climate change.” This is the second withdrawal since Trump previously announced his withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on June 1, 2017, when he was in his first term as president.
Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement is a very important environmental issue. Because the Paris Agreement is an agreement in which nearly 200 countries agreed to work together to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. In withdrawing this time, Trump said, “I am immediately withdrawing from the unfair and biased Paris Agreement.” Trump stated the reason for this, “China continues to pollute with no responsibility, while the United States bears the irrational burden.”
Previously, Trump has commented on global warming, saying that “global warming is a hoax” and that he will push US oil and gas companies to increase production.
So what happens if the US withdraws from the “Paris Agreement”?
Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement has been heavily criticized by environmentalists around the world, as well as by international leaders from many countries, as the US is the world’s second largest emitter of greenhouse gases, after China. If it withdraws, it will be more difficult or impossible to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, an environmental scholar and director of the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), revealed information about the situation this time, saying, “Currently, there is a Green Climate Fund, which former US President “Joe Biden” donated to the fund up to 3 billion US dollars, or about 100 billion Thai baht, to be used for adaptation and technology development. However, since “Trump” withdrew from the Paris Agreement, the budget to be used for various projects will certainly decrease.”
And if “Trump” supports more fossil fuels and less clean energy, it will make the world’s climate worse. The climate crisis will increase. Even Americans themselves will not be able to escape the severe climate crisis, just like the massive wildfires in California, which are still not 100% under control.
Even though the United States has withdrawn from the “Paris Agreement,” hundreds of countries are still moving forward and watching President “Donald Trump” to see if his next policies will create more environmental crises.
