South Korea faces a major wildfire, burning over 300,000 rai. The fire was started by humans!

South Korea is facing its worst forest fires in history, destroying more than 300,000 hectares of land and killing more than 30 people. The cause of the forest fires is not natural, but man-made!

Multiple forest fires in South Korea have been burning since March 21, 2025, in a forest area in southeastern South Korea. Many roads are impassable and several signal poles are downed.

The total death toll now stands at 30, as the winds have caused the fires to spread rapidly, destroying more than 300,000 hectares of land, making it the second largest forest fire in South Korea’s history and the deadliest.

The forest fires have spread to several communities, damaging homes, and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are at high risk of being affected by the fires.

Forest fires in South Korea are rare, but the country’s weather has been drier than usual in recent months and there has been less rain, causing more forest fires than last year.

However, the cause of the forest fires is believed to be a 56-year-old man who is suspected of setting fire to grass and causing the fires. The man may have set fire to the overgrown grass at the family’s gravesite.

However, police have not yet said whether they will call in any other people for questioning, as firefighters believe the fire may have been caused by human activities, such as burning trash or sparks from welding.
