Microsoft partners with Shizen Energy to purchase 100 MW of solar power, boosting green data centers across Asia

Microsoft has signed an agreement with Japan’s clean energy developer Shizen Energy to purchase 100 megawatts (MW) of solar power, supporting the expansion of its global data centers, particularly in Asia.

The partnership covers four solar projects in Japan — one already operational and three under construction — under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

This deal is part of Microsoft’s “Green Compute” initiative, which aims to power all its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030, driving the technology sector toward a more sustainable future.
