Khao Kheow Open Zoo recently introduced a new celebrity, “Moo Deng”, a baby pygmy hippo, who is currently famous on social media both domestically and internationally. With his adorable character, mischievous and playful behavior, his fans have fallen for him.
“Moo Deng” was born on July 10, 2024 to a pygmy hippo named “Jona”, 25 years old, and a father named “Tony”, 24 years old. Nong Moo Deng also has a sibling who lives in Khao Kheow Open Zoo, which is “Moo Tun”. Brother Moo Tun is also a famous celebrity of Khao Kheow Open Zoo. You could say that the whole family is a celebrity.
Many people who saw the clip of the bouncy pig and met the real one at Khao Kheow Open Zoo all said in unison that the bouncy pig is truly “bouncy” as its name suggests. This is because the pig is still young and mischievous, causing it to run around all day. When the caretakers touch it, it shakes its body to avoid touching it, which makes many people really love the bouncy pig.
The nanny of Nong Moo Deng, “Mr. Benz – Atthaphon Nuntee”, opened up to reporters that overall, pygmy hippos are quite fierce animals. But in Nong Moo Deng’s case, he is still a child, so he has a mischievous behavior, so he is not scary. Moreover, Mr. Benz has taken care of Mom Jonah (Moo Deng’s mother) for 8 years and has taken care of Mom Jonah’s 3 children, so he can get close to her. In terms of taking care of her, he takes care of her like any other pygmy hippo. He does not take any special care more than the others.

If the hippos don’t want to see people, they will dive into the water or hide in various corners. “Moo Deng’s” caretaker said, “We raise them naturally. We don’t force them to come out and show themselves every day.”
