Every year, Bangkok faces its own “smog season”, but this year there’s hope for cleaner air as public and private sectors unite to tackle PM2.5 pollution early.
The Pollution Control Department, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Ministry of Natural Resources, and nine major car manufacturers, has launched the campaigns “Car Clinic to Cut PM2.5” and “This Car #ReducesDust.”
The initiative encourages drivers to check and maintain their engines — with discounts up to 50% — since well-maintained cars emit far less exhaust, helping reduce urban air pollution.
The Green List program has also expanded from trucks over 6 wheels to include regular 4-wheel vehicles, offering perks such as parking discounts and free movie tickets for participants.
Meanwhile, the BMA is partnering with nearby provinces like Nakhon Nayok to curb rice straw burning, promoting baled-straw collection instead of open-field burning to stop smoke drifting into the city.
Because solving air pollution isn’t just about government policy — it starts with small actions from all of us: maintaining your car, changing the oil, and taking care of your vehicle can truly help clear the air for everyone.
