The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has closed Prajadhipok Road between Ban Khaek Intersection and Wongwian Yai following a ground subsidence incident caused by water leaking into the construction tunnel of the MRT Purple Line South project. The incident led to soil settlement and affected several nearby buildings.
In response, the BMA has implemented three urgent measures: monitoring and evacuating residents within a 30-meter risk zone while installing automated building movement monitoring systems; closing the affected section of Prajadhipok Road to reduce vibrations and recommending alternative routes; and preparing traffic management plans around major schools in the area, with the possibility of providing additional school shuttle services.
The latest update indicates that the water level inside the tunnel has begun to stabilize. However, the BMA, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), contractors, and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation continue to monitor the situation around the clock, with emergency personnel and equipment on standby.
