A recent online story has sparked public concern after a mother shared a video describing her daughter’s health problems following a visit to a popular tourist spot where she played near a flock of pigeons. Shortly afterward, the child began falling ill frequently, developing pneumonia and recurrent respiratory infections, requiring multiple hospital visits.
The mother suspected the illnesses might be linked to Cryptococcus, a fungus commonly found in pigeon droppings. Inhaling or coming into contact with this fungus can cause cryptococcosis, an infection that in severe cases may spread to the brain and lead to meningitis, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems.
Even now, the mother says she still feels guilty for unknowingly exposing her child to a high-risk area, and she expressed gratitude for the messages of support and advice from people online that helped raise greater awareness about safety.CR: https://www.nbseh.org/index.php/journals/article/view/10.63095.NBSEH.25.840231?utm
