Tech company Aircela from the United States has unveiled a prototype machine that can produce gasoline from “air”, successfully demonstrating its operation on a rooftop in Manhattan this past May.
This fridge-sized machine captures CO₂ directly from the air and extracts hydrogen from water. It then synthesizes these into gasoline that can be used in regular cars without any engine modifications. Importantly, it emits only as much carbon as it removes from the atmosphere, making it a carbon-neutral fuel.
Aircela plans to launch real-world use by the end of this year, highlighting the machine’s ease of installation, versatility for use anywhere, and independence from existing infrastructure.
