Pakistan is facing severe flooding across multiple areas of Punjab province, with more than 170 confirmed deaths, half of them children. Continuous heavy rains since late June have caused houses to collapse, roads to be destroyed, and farmland to be submerged.
The government has declared a state of emergency, set up seven relief centers, and deployed the army to help evacuate affected residents. Children remain the most vulnerable group, facing risks of drowning and waterborne diseases such as dysentery, dengue fever, and malaria.
This disaster highlights Pakistan’s deep vulnerability to the climate crisis—a country that suffered catastrophic floods in 2022, which killed over 1,000 people and left millions without access to safe drinking water.
