Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, is increasingly being described as the “highest garbage dump on Earth”—and it’s not just ordinary litter. The waste includes human excrement, empty oxygen cylinders, abandoned tents, and discarded climbing gear left behind by climbers.
Despite both legal measures and social campaigns to regulate waste management on the mountain, complete cleanup remains a major challenge. Achieving lasting results will require sustained cooperation between governments, tour operators, and climbers themselves.
