Japanese company Kirin Holdings has unveiled its latest high-tech dining devices — the Electric Salt Spoon and Electric Salt Cup.
These innovative gadgets use mild electric stimulation to “trick the tongue” into perceiving food as saltier, even when little to no salt is added.
🔧 How it works:
The devices send a safe, weak electric current through the food to the tongue.
This current helps sodium ions (Na⁺) move more actively, making the brain sense a stronger salty flavor — up to 1.5 times more intense — without actually increasing salt content.
🍜 Highlights of the new models:
- New Electric Salt Cup designed for soups and hot ramen
- Adjustable intensity with 3 levels
- Detachable and dishwasher-safe components
- Upgraded Electric Salt Spoon with a smaller, more user-friendly head
