The moat of Chiang Mai has been especially lively recently, thanks to a group of so-called “intern geese” brought in for a 7-day trial program. Their job? To help improve water quality by eating duckweed, plankton, and grass.
The initiative has become a charming sight, drawing both locals and tourists to check in, take photos, and cheer on the feathered “trainees.”
Meanwhile, the Chiang Mai Municipality will evaluate the results after the trial, assessing the geese’s effectiveness in water treatment, as well as the cost of care, safety considerations, and community impacts.
While the long-term outcome remains uncertain, one thing is clear: the intern geese have already brought smiles and delightful stories to the heart of Chiang Mai.
